Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne believes the club’s pre-season training base in Croatia is in a perfect location, as they look to step up their preparations ahead of the upcoming 2022/23 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Warne joined the club’s travel partners on a day trip the facility last month and admits he was impressed with he facilities on offer, with the Millers set to visit in the first week of July (2nd-9th).

The club’s pre-season training camps have become notorious for not only laying the foundations for the campaign ahead with an abundance of high intensity fitness work, but also for building the team spirit and camaraderie that have served Warne’s charges so well over the years.

With pre-season tests against Parkgate, Salford City and Doncaster Rovers already announced and still other games to follow, the manager revealed he is looking at the possibility of further friendlies to be played overseas during the week away from Roundwood.

Speaking at the club’s training base at Roundwood – where the manager and the rest of the team were pressing ahead with their plans for the new campaign – Warne discussed the benefits of the camp.

“I had a flying visit in May and I’m really pleased with the accommodation,” Warne told www.themillers.co.uk.

“There are plenty of pitches, it’s right on the coast and I believe it’s going to be quite warm weather while we’re there.

“A pre-season training camp is essential for us to get all our points across and spend time with the players.

“It also gives any new players the chance to meet the rest of the lads and it’s a good week.

“We had other options, but obviously with what’s going on in Ukraine at the moment, some of them were a bit of a risk, so we’ve selected Croatia.

“It is in a great place and something different for the lads. I don’t like to take them back to the same place if I can help it, even though I did really like Budapest.

“We’re aiming for two games, but it is everything else around that week which I really like.”

Dates for further pre-season fixtures – including aforementioned potential overseas games – will be announced on www.themillers.co.uk once all relevant friendly agreements have been finalised and signed by our opponents.

So far, the Millers pre-season schedule has been confirmed as follows:
